Built in Pensacola by people who live here

How we work

Most of our jobs come from people who had a bad experience with a contractor who did not show up, did not finish, or did not say what it would cost. We built the business around not being that.

Sam is on site. Quotes are in writing. If something behind a wall changes the plan, you hear about it that day, with options and prices, before anything is done about it. And when we say a job is finished, it is clean and it is right.

What we do

We work on houses. Hemken Construction is a Florida Certified Residential Contractor, which covers residential renovations, remodels, additions, and new home construction.

We are hands-on builders, not project managers who sub everything out. Framing, trim, drywall, flooring, doors, windows, siding, and paint are done by our own crews. Plumbing and electrical are done by licensed trades we have worked with for years and stand behind.

Insurance and licensing

General liability insurance is carried on every job. We will send a certificate of insurance on request before work starts. Our license is Florida Certified Residential Contractor number CRC1333969, and you can check it yourself against the state register rather than taking our word for it.

Work for veterans

Hemken Construction is registered with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs under Builder ID 13184. The VA rescinded the builder ID requirement for ordinary VA-guaranteed loans in March 2025, but kept it for Specially Adapted Housing grants and Native American Direct Loans, so if your project runs through one of those we are already in the system and you are not waiting on paperwork to get started.

Worth saying plainly: a builder ID is a registration, not an endorsement. The VA does not rate our work and is not a party to your contract. Check the state licence, ask for the certificate of insurance, and call the references, the same as you would with anyone.

Our specialty

Finish carpentry and decks. Both are work where the details show, where a clean miter or a properly flashed ledger is the difference between a job that looks good on day one and a job that still looks good in ten years. That standard carries into everything else we do.
